The vision of the TSO is to be recognized as a center of musical excellence—nourishing spirits, and developing intellectual and creative capital that adds value for all.  The mission of the TSO is to pursue, for all, the transformative power of symphonic music through excellence in live performance and education.  TSO is dedicated to ensuring that the world’s great symphonic compositions are performed, heard, felt, understood, appreciated, valued, and expected in the greater Texarkana area – and that they endure as a relevant and valued part of the daily lives of our citizens today and for future generations.  Furthermore, the TSO aspires to be the leading resource of professional music and musicians throughout far Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma and Southwest Arkansas.

A Brief History

Founded by an inspired group of initial patrons, our first concert was presented on April 4, 2006, and was hailed by the community as a needed and powerful new resource for musical leadership.  Within months the Junior League of Texarkana chose to award a $100,000, 80th Anniversary Gift, to the Symphony for its potential to foster educational excellence for children through local access to a professional music ensemble.  This generous gift enabled the Symphony to immediately launch community outreach efforts, in-school educational programs, and student concerts.  By the fall of 2007, the Symphony founded the Texarkana Youth Symphony Orchestra, the first auditioned ensemble of its kind for the area.  Following the phenomenal growth of the artistic endeavors of the Orchestra, the board of directors voted to employ its first executive director in the spring of 2008.  Under the creative excellence of our music director, the Symphony has attracted nationally and internationally acclaimed guest artists; commissioned a piece by the award winning composer, and Texarkana native, Clint Needham; produced a chamber music series; and provided numerous side-by-side performance opportunities with the Texarkana Youth Symphony Orchestra.

 Executive Summary

The ultimate goal of the TSO is to serve as a premier contributor to the cultural enrichment of the greater Texarkana area.  The TSO endeavors to be a point of inspiration to the entire community, while serving as a catalyst for economic development through increased access to quality of life experiences.  The TSO desires to be recognized on a regional and national level as a model for artistic excellence, a leader in cultural preservation, and a champion for good governance.
